The Mastermind is Revealed

The Prisoner has arrived on Malleus X and confronts Dr. Richter, well also revealing he is the mastermind of the heists on this planet. Well, he gets into an ethical argument with Richter, Akeldama and Thunder are left to deal with the henchman monster. As Blood & Thunder eliminate the monster, the Prisoner ends Dr. Richter’s life. Now in hot pursuit, Akeldama finally confronts the Prisoner. However, the conversation takes on a very interesting and informative tone.

Criminal or Liberator?

In this issue we get some more interesting storytelling and message building. Benito Cereno is really driving a message home about the privileged and taken advantage of. This message is key and is done very well. Cereno also mixes in some very good action sequences to help entertain the reader and break up some of the tension from the message. With that being said, the story kind of stalls a bit and drags for a lot of this issue. The last few pages with the conversation between the Prisoner and Akeldama really saves this issue and makes it not just another filler issue.

The art in this series is top tier and some of the best in the industry today. E.J. Su does an incredible job with the character designs and making sure the characters and species stay unique. The brutal and visceral kill scenes in this issue really stand out and grab the reader’s attention. Msassyk does a wonderful job with the colors. The colors amplify the seriousness of the story and really draw the readers’ eyes to the art. The art continues to be one of the strongest parts of this series.

Final Thoughts

Blood & Thunder #6 delivers more on the message and theme but walks the fine line of being a filler issue in the process. The action scenes, kill scenes, art, and final encounter between the Prisoner and Akeldama definitely bail this issue out. Even though this issue isn’t the strongest in the series, it’s still a good issue, and the series is a wonderful story worth reading.

Final Grade: 7.5/10
