The Hunt Continues

Dr. Richter and the other scientists are hot on the trail of the murderous monster. Just when they think it’s a myth, they not only find it, but find multiple. After reporting this to the authorities, it’s decided that they will need the help of the IPPF. Enter Blood & Thunder who are representing the IPPF for this situation. The scientists seem to be transfixed by the fact that Akeldama is an Exogenic. Despite all of this, Akeldama hits the ground running, and starts to put together what is really going on here.

Enter Blood & Thunder

This issue really drives home the message that this story is based around, while expanding the plot and drawing the reader fully in. Benito Cereno does an excellent job of pushing the story forward while delivering a clear message within the story. The message of a lesser class plays into real life issues of racism and really makes the story relatable. Cereno delivers this message without being didactive which makes it palatable to all readers. The fact that he can walk the line of delivering a direct message while delivering a great story with great action is a testament to how good of a writer he is.

The art in this series is top tier and some of the best in the industry today. E.J. Su does a fantastic job with the character designs and making sure the characters and species stay unique. Couple that with Su’s depictions of the world we are in, and it makes for an amazing experience. Msassyk does an amazing job with the color choices. The mixing of lighter and darker color schemes to represent the emotions of the scene really drive home the feel of the story and message. The art really draws you in and doesn’t let you go.

Final Thoughts

Blood & Thunder #5 really ups the ante of not just the story, but of the overall message. This really draws the reader in, but at the same time makes the story completely relatable. Don’t worry, the action and sarcasm are still there and, in the forefront, making this an amazing reading experience. This issue should be on your list of must-haves at the LCS this week, if it’s not already on your Pull List.

Final Grade: 9.3/10
