New Setting, New Problems
The issue picks up with the aftermath of the break in at Doctor Richter’s house on Malleus X. Doctor Richter takes it on himself to figure out who broke in and killed his Footman. This sends him to the home of Dr. Arthur to find out if he had been targeted as well. Well, there he talks with Arthur’s servant Grimble who tells them a native legend about a creature who feeds off Malleans. As Richter searches for more answers, his colleagues tell him he’s crazy for believing the Mallean. But the crazy part starts to become reality.
The Myth is Real?
Issue four takes the story in a completely different direction. We end up on a different planet and with no Blood & Thunder. Benito Cereno takes a gamble on introducing some new concepts and story elements. Which is a good set up for what’s to come as the story evolves and continues. However, the complete unfamiliarity with the characters and what’s going on is kind of confusing. In the long run it will probably connect and make sense, but here and now it seems out of place.
The art in the issue is amazing and really makes the story come to life. E.J. Su continues to crush it with his character designs and furthermore with the addition of this new world. Making Malleus X look and feel completely different from everywhere else we’ve been is a real testament to his art style. The colors are vibrant and familiar to previous issues which helps tie this issue back to the grander story.

Final Thoughts
Blood & Thunder #4 introduces the reader to a new setting and problem. The situation and setting on their own are intriguing, but the completely new setting and characters with no appearance or mention of the heroes we’ve come to love is an odd choice. Overall, the issue is still good, and the art is fantastic and worth reading for sure.
Final Grade: 7/10
