“The Black Guy Always Gets It First”
The story opens at night with a pizza guy named Julio delivering pizzas to the Delta Delta Delta frat house. Upon entering the house, Julio is killed in some sort of ritual. We then flash to JJ on campus as his family has just showed up for a visit. The group consists of JJ’s cousin OG, her girlfriend Kaya, Kaya’s roommate Phoenix, and her dog Muffin. They have traveled from NYC to Upstate NY, and OG is not impressed by “White Heaven”. She picks on JJ about being a sellout.
In the process of all this happening JJ and his family are invited to a Delta Delta Delta party by Connor who is a frat brother. Once at the party, JJ explains that the frat has been controversial because they don’t let minorities join. Upon hearing this the family decides it’s time to go. Unfortunately for them it’s too late and some real stuff is about to hit the fan.
“Can Not Trust These…White Boys!”
This story is a wonderful mix of Evil Dead and Blerd culture. J. Holtham does a fantastic job of bringing the story to life and mixing a message into an entertaining horror comedy story. The comedy brings levity to a strong message, well the horror doesn’t take a backseat at all.
The art in this book is interesting and captures the feel of the story. The cartoonish character design lends itself to the comedic levity. Well, the gore and monster design give the full horror vibe. Aside from the art design, Michael Lee Harris’ use of reds is phenomenal and adds to the story. Micah Myers letters match the vibe of the panel they are in and allow the reader to immerse themselves in the emotion of the story.
