The Son of the Jim
Slade is about to meet his maker in the Bludhole, as he finally says the magic words that activate the amulet. Upon doing this it gives him superhuman strength which allows him to save his and the others’ lives. As the Beetle Leader confronts him, he learns that Slade is the son of the great warrior known as The Jim. With this the beetle horde celebrates Slade and sets up to be led into battle and take out Syd, much to the disapproval of Slade.
Upon this news, the mystic spiders want the amulet that Slade possess. They task Syster Wysta to use her relationship with Slade to bring him to them. But unfortunately for them, the ant clan has also heard word of this new messiah.
Don’t Kill My Brother
Bug Wars #3 gives us the hero turn of Slade and shows his uncertainty about his new role. Jason Aaron does a fantastic job of bringing humanity to all of these buggy characters. You really feel for the characters and the troubles and problems that they face. At the same time there is an underlayer of humor and of course some great action beats as well.
The art in this series is always astounding. Muhmud Asrar does a phenomenal job with character designs. Making them unique to their clans, but also different from one another as well. The backgrounds are also stunning. Matt Wilson’s use of colors makes every panel pop off the page and makes the art stand out in all its glory.
