The Christmas Log

Written By Steve Orlando – Art By Adam Gorham – Colors By Francesco Segala & Gloria Martinelli – Letters By Lucas Gattoni

A man returns home for the holidays to the surprise of his mother. What she doesn’t know is that her son has kidnapped a man that use to bully him in school. Torture and revenge are on this holiday menu, but to what end?

This is a great tone setter to start the issue off. Steve Orlando is one of the best writers in the genre today and he absolutely slays it on this one. Revenge is something we all can relate to, and living vicariously through our protagonist is as good as it gets.

Into the Mines

Written By Justina Ireland – Art By Valentine De Landro – Colors By Marissa Louise – Letters By Taylor Esposito

Two slaves escape captivity and are on the run. One gets away as the other is captured and returned to the mines. Once back the slave states that he only ran off because of the killer monster in the mines. The master doesn’t believe the slave and sends the slave along with a few men to investigate the issue and to put it to bed. Unfortunately for the men, the reality is far scarier.

This story takes us on a journey in the past. The storyline has some awesome setup with a payoff that you know is coming, but still catches you with your guard down. The art looks simplistic and older, which makes each panel stand out. The colors match the mood and tone completely.

Aisling, Drowned

Written and Art By Sas Milledge

This next story is a ghost tale. The specter of a young woman is haunting a small village. The townspeople are shaken up about this event. But what will the answer be to this ghost problem?

This story is pretty laid back and feels more like a poem. Not super entertaining, but also not a bad tale either. The big winner for this story is the art. The art is fantastic on all the panels in this tale. The art is well worth a read of this story.

The War: Part Six

Written By Garth Ennis – Art By Becky Cloonan – Colors By Tamra Bonvillain – Letters By Pat Brosseau

As our two survivors are hunkered down, a group of soldiers discovers them. However, the soldiers start dropping dead from what appears to be radiation poisoning, until there is one left. The lone surviving soldier talks to our protagonist about what has happened during the war. As unbelievable as that sounds, what happens next will take you to the height of emotion.

This final story is an awesome story to end with. Garth Ennis once again brings us into the desolate world and makes us feel about all the characters involved. The art is also top notch and brings a great deal of life to each panel.
