In this fourth installment of the Minor Threats world from Dark Horse comics, Barfly continues to inspire, make me smile, and make me shudder in disgust. I have loved this world since it kicked off, but Sh*teater is the heart of it all for me. However, I worry he’ll never get to just be a happy little punk fly guy when his dad won’t stop making evil plans for him.

The Story for Issue #3
Years ago Sunburst put Sh*teater’s dad (The Entomologist) behind bars. Issue 3 kicks off with a very touching, disturbing, and hilarious flashback to Sunburst’s origin story. However, now that the Entomologist is back, Sunburst is not handling it well. You won’t like him when he doesn’t handle things well.
Meanwhile, Sh*teater is living the punk life dream. He’s got some great friends who’ve helped him move past the toxic-ness that is his father/creator. However, the moment I start to smile for my favorite little fly dude, his dad shows up. Toxic parents only stay away until they need something from you, and the Entomologist has big evil plans.
The Art
I’m not sure I will ever stop raving about the art in Barfly. All the Minor Threats books have had fantasticly detailed and beautiful art. Barfly has continued the tradition. However, when your main character is a fly man, it gets a little gross at times. A single panel can make me laugh, smile, and gag. It’s truly amazing. You have to look at every detail or you may just miss something hilarious. From an alien crashing his ship while drinking a Lime-A-Rita, to a Circuit City shirt in a flashback, to a Punky Brewster nod. The art in Barfly is a hell of a lot of fun.

If you love comics filled with humor, action, toxic parents, and a lovable little giant fly man with no wings, then this is the comic for you.
As the Minor Threats world keeps growing, it just keeps getting better. If you haven’t grabbed a comic from this world yet, no time is better than now. Barfly will give you a hilariously sweet and gruesome taste of this world, that will make you want to know more. As Barfly begins to wrap up, another story is about to unfold (The Brood), and Netflix is already working on a show. So head to that local comic shop, grab an issue of Barfly, crack open a beer (or whatever your favorite beverage may be), and enjoy. You won’t regret it. CHEERS!
