A Strange Land

Jaga wakes up in a weird world where he is a flesh and blood Cat again. But he is not alone as his mortal enemy Mumm-Ra is also on this plane and their battle picks up where they had left off. As the battle really intensifies they are both transported to another realm. While traveling from realm to realm we learn of their past as friends, and where they both went wrong. But, as all of this is revealed, the true nature of these former friends is truly exposed.

Friends No More

ThunderCats #20 takes us on a side journey where we learn truths we didn’t know. Declan Shalvey does a wonderful job of telling the story of two friends who would become mortal enemies. This rewriting of Thundercats lore is an amazing addition to this already fantastic story arc. The story does get a little drawn out and almost a little confusing. However, the greater meaning of the story and where this will lead to, makes it all worth it.

The art in this issue is fantastic and captures this strange dream like realm perfectly. Joe Mulvey & David O’Sullivan do a great job of showing this weird realm, well also focusing on the major players in said realm. The character designs are fantastic, and the many iterations of both Jaga and Mumm-Ra really drive home the story. Arancia Studio does a wonderful job with the color choices, which really makes the art stand out.

Final Thoughts

ThunderCats #20 although a little slower paced, still captures the greater story at hand. The revelations of this issue will surely tie into what is happening with the Cats in this present time. As this story gets deeper, it never disappoints with the great reveals. If this series isn’t already on your Pull List, you should really consider adding it, as the story is simply fantastic.

Overall Grade: 8.5/10
