A Reprogrammed War

Professor Percy Dalton has figured out a way to reprogram a T-800 allowing it to fight alongside the resistance. The T-800 he reprogrammed he named Tex, and Tex has saved his butt a lot. Well out on a recon mission, Percy and Tex get ambushed by the machines. After they survive the encounter, they find two other freedom fighters who have survived, Cooper & Amos. Amos has zero trust in Tex; well Cooper knows Percy and has a lot of faith in him. However, as they move forward and try to survive, the challenges of a machine with no human emotion become evident. Is this just a machine not understanding or is the machine really a sleeper agent?

Can You Trust a Machine

This first issue brings an interesting premise and wrinkle to The Terminator franchise. Declan Shalvey & Rory McConville do an awesome job of creating this new yet familiar world. The mythology we all know is still represented, but the elements of the trust of a machine really set this story apart. As the series goes on it will be interesting to see where they take this story, as there are literally endless possibilities with this one.

The artwork in this issue is incredible and captures the essence of the Terminator franchise. Lorenzo Re does an amazing job of bringing this post-apocalyptic world into reality. The character designs are great; well, the backgrounds and surroundings are stunning and really make the story feel real. The color choices by Colin Craker match the tone and look of the art perfectly. This may only be issue one, but the art team is already showing off some awesome art in this one.

Final Thoughts

The Terminator: Metal #1 is a really good first issue to kick off a series. Setting the table with what’s to come, well making the reader decide if they would trust the reprogrammed Terminator. The possibilities of where this story will go are truly endless. When you’re at the LCS this week, strongly consider picking up this first issue and enjoy a great new tale in a great franchise.
