Always finding himself in the wrong place but at the right time, our endearing cowardly Redcoat, Simon Pure, may have found himself at the worst spot imaginable. The White House is being burned by the British and if Simon doesn’t escape he may just find himself in the wrong hands or will he find himself truly immortal?

Creative Team:
Geoff Johns (WRITER and CREATOR), Bryan Hitch (INKS, COVER, and CREATOR), Brad Anderson (COLOR and COVER), Andrew Currie (INKS), and Rob Leigh (LETTERS).
*SPOILERS AHEAD*
The Story:
This may be the therapeutic issue we needed right now in regards to what George Washington stood for. Geoff and Bryan do well to remind us that this is all tongue in cheek history.
I cannot help but to feel that they layered real meaning and messaging within the panels and words that are lettered by Rob. Simon once again has found himself in a predicament but, this issue brings back the air of light-heartedness that we needed right now.
What Johns and Bryan are doing with this run is the reason why I love it so much. They know when to lighten the weights and give us a fun adventure tale, but this issue at the same time has a heart-warming ending as it is the prelude to one of my most anticipated stories!
The Art:
Brad, Bryan, and Andrew know how to create some truly awe-inspiring moments. There are panels that bring about the humor, such as Simon carrying a giant portrait of Washington out of the White House with the First Lady. Then they open us up to intense one-shots, such as the White House ablaze as the duo look on, or the big, massive reveal of a returning character that lights up the sky.
Make no mistake, though, the team hammers home the details, such as the soot left on the First Lady’s face after escaping and the fine details within the White House’s walls.
Overall Grade 10/10
Redcoat #14 takes us step back into the fun and adventurous side of our story, but not without stunning moments and teasing what is to come.
