Welcome to Metro 1
The book opens with our introduction to Metro 1, which is a satellite city built on an asteroid. The city is split into different tiers, and the lower the tier the worse the area. The bottom tier is called the floor and is filled with Exo’s and the shadiest of residents. It is here that we get introduced to Akeldama Bledsoe AKA Blood. She is chasing down a fugitive named Herp the Perp, and with the help of her partner/gun Thunder who refuses to use lethal force, she captures Herp.
Upon returning to a higher tier with Herp, Blood is summoned to meet up with Chief Amundsen. It is here that we learn more about the books that were confiscated from Herp. We also learn about Blood’s personal life. Her dad was an IPPF officer, who was the original owner of Thunder. The Chief wants her to reconsider going to the academy and becoming an official officer and maybe upgrade her gun. She declines both, but little does she know this will be the least of her worries soon.
An Exo with a Human Name
This first issue really does an awesome job of introducing us to the world and our main characters. Benito Cereno does an awesome job of melding the genres of Sci-Fi, Adventure, and Comedy. The concept of a Sci-Fi buddy cop adventure is unique in the market and is a breath of fresh air. The action and humor also hit the spot and make for an amazing perfect blend.
The art in this book is a perfect fit for the aesthetic of the story. E.J. Su does a phenomenal job with bringing the world to life and character design is next level. The different types of aliens and humans really flex the creativity of E.J. Su. Add to that the perfectly matching color pallet of Msassyk and there is no wonder that every panel jumps off the page.
