The Artwork:
Truly, and I mean truly, the concepts that Riley and DWJ continue to come up with in this story. Every new issue brings about some form of a new creature, and it leaves me asking myself just where they came up with this idea.
There are so many different drawn and colored creatures that the reader cannot help but stay that extra minute on every panel to truly take in the details and scenery. It’s these details and creativity that continue keeping this story fresh and appealing to our eyes. The scene where they focus in on Duncan and the intensity and wrinkles and sadness we see just from looking him into the eyes tell a story all in their own.
The Story:
The theme of this issue is healing and how even our worst nightmares can be there to prepare us and make us stronger individuals. Sam and Duncan emotionally become closer again as Sam realizes she never let go of the loss of her mother. As a parent, it is things such as this that we don’t sometimes realize are affecting our kids, and it is such clever storytelling to bring into the fold. Comics can teach us life lessons, and DWJ and Rossmo teach us a bit more with every issue written.
Another hook is that every time we think they’re about to get Penny back, something more comes, and this issue ends on a rather ominous cliff-hanger. Duncan has kept his secret with some very dark undertones to it which ends this hopeful and emotional issue on a rather unsettling note.
Final Thoughts:
The Moon is Following Us is truly an emotional rollercoaster of a tale. Every time we think that we’re about to taste victory, the crew takes us on another loop and reminds us that there is always more yet to come. It’s gripping and continues to bring me back and keep me engaged and I love this tale.
Overall Grade: 10/10
