From the Solicitation:

“It’s never good news to have a nondescript white van following you around. Just like it’s never good to be invited to a gang leader’s back rooms or pleasant to be caught between two warring factions. But you know what IS good? Free beer. But as everything comes to a head and one murderer after another is revealed, Yoon — the girl who sees strings — once more learns that everything is connected, and that even free beer has its costs.”

Previously on issue #3

In spite of the solving a cases, this did not get Yoon any closer to solving the mystery of her own black string. But, that would had to wait. Yoon received a call about another case she’s working on. Previously, she had taken on a murder case for a local gang. The only lead to follow was a rival gang from the same town. Yoon was about to walk into the belly of the beast by herlself. No Detective Mayfield, no back up. All alone with her sense of duty and her wits. What did Yoon find out about the unseolved murder case inside the gang’s bar hangout?

Witch Girl Yoon

From the moment she walked into the bar, Yoon was Scared out of her mind. Yoon walked into a bar looking for a black string. This was to solve the murder of Mateo, the gang leader who hired Yoon. But Yoon looked like a fish out of water. This bar was a place for rugged people. However, Yoon could not look less rugged if she tried. She became the center of attention because of how much she stood out. Finally, the leader of bar people approached Yoon. This man knew Yoon, he called her “Witch Girl”. Which Yoon foun endearing. Also, he knew what she was doing, looking for black strings.

A Girl with wits

Soon, Yoon found herself cornered by the bar’s leader. With her back against the wall she resulted to using her ability to leverage her way out of a tight situation. In a bar filled with gang members, how many secret affairs you think you’d find? How would everyone react when all these secrets get aired out in public? Clearly all those elements combined with drugs, alcohol and high testosterone would result in a disaster. Of course, this was not something their leader wanted to deal with. So he allowed Yoon to leave the bar unscathed, in exchange for her silence.

Finally, after leaving the bar Yoon reported back to Enzo. He had hired Yoon to solve the murder of his nephew Mateo. Suprisingly enough, this case sortf of solved itself. Yoon just happened to be in the right place at the right time.

How about the art?

The trio of Carlos J. Olivares, Sara Colella & Taylor Esposito did it again. Clearly, the work of these artist is nothing if not consistent. This world is bright and colorful. Even in the most dire of situations. Without taking away from the tone and feel of each scene.

Overal Grade: 7.5/10

There’s a few details that were clearly rushed in my opinion. For example, the resolution to Mateo’s murder case. But I imagine it might be because there’s more important things to be flushed out. Or because the series concludes in the next issue. With the reveal we’ve been waiting for, the black string connected to Yoon. Admittedly that’s main plot and the thing I’m more invested in.
