The Seasons Sisters Revealed!
The Seasons continues when we finally get introduced to the rest of the mysterious family of sisters! When last we left, Spring had finally read the letter from Autumn, warning of a nefarious carnival quietly causing carnage across the globe! There was only one problem…it’s all ready in town!
Everything you missed in Issue 1 of The Seasons!
A Trip Through Seasons
This issue kicks off with Autumn continuing her exploration, much like an Indiana Jones adventure. When we leave her on the brink of danger, we go back to Spring, eager to warn Winter of Autumn’s letter. Winter is an artist, a painter to be exact, and somewhat of a perfectionist. She’s quite rigid and cold. Then we are introduced to Summer, a model. Summer enjoys the finer things in life and seems to think the world revolves around her. As the introductions end, it seems that we are one step closer to seeing them unite at the baleful carnival that Spring was warned to avoid!
Rick Remender Gives Us More Spring in The Seasons!
I really enjoyed the introductions and exploration of the sister characters. Even though we learned plenty about Spring in the previous issue, more of who she is gets revealed to us. She may be the youngest, clumsiest, and wide-eyed of the family but she’s also learning to become a chef! The more we learn about each of them, the deeper I become invested into the story. They are each so beautiful and talented in their own unique ways. Remender keeps adding layers onto the characters and the arc, building a deep, fascinating story.
The Seasons Art is an Instant Classic
The artwork continues to be an example of “the classics never die”. A brilliant take on vintage cartoon comic strips along with bright, beautifully toned colors makes it impossible not to stop and take in each panel. It’s fun and light-hearted in nature, and yet you can feel something otherworldly lurking beneath.
Obviously color palettes play a strong role in each season’s aura. The cold colors of Winter. The warm colors of Summer. The browns of Autumn. The brightness of Spring. Every technique plays a brilliant role in characterization.
Overall Grade 9/10
The Seasons presents a solid issue #2 that doesn’t lose the momentum of its debut. It’s still mysterious and fun. Remender builds the sisters out so well with their individual mannerisms and personalities. All of them actually seem so different that it will ultimately cause a lot of conflict. However, I am excited to see how Remnder plans to bring them together in unison. Also, visually striking artwork that feels familiar and safe seems to be making us feel safe before they pull the rug out from under us. I’m excited to see what’s in store! Do you feel the same?
