The Green Hornet and Miss Fury continue to search for their mentor The Silver Shrike. Miss Fury prefers to play loose and fast with the rules, but The Green Hornet doesn’t want to sink to the level of the criminals they are after. What we learn about Green Hornet’s past lessons from Silver Shrike? Where is Kato in all of this? The Green Hornet/Miss Fury #2 brings the action and the brutality…with a smile.

The Green Hornet/Miss Fury Fight For Justice?
We pick up right where we left off, The Green Hornet and Miss Fury outnumbered in a fist fight! The Green Hornet gets caught up in his head and takes a haymaker to his chin, putting him down for the count. In his subconscious we get a memory of Britt Reid learning a lesson on justice from his mentor Silver Shrike. It’s a cool moment that leads to some possible foreshadowing.
When he comes to, Miss Fury pulled him out of harms way and she’s interrogating one of the thugs. The scene is great because we see how they both approach the job of vigilante. Miss Fury is a little more Frank Castle in her approach, where as Green Hornet leans more towards the Batman approach. This brings a great interaction between the two of them on how they will proceed as two sides of the same coin.
A quick recap of issue 1 can be found here!
When this issue gets to it’s final act it’s a wild ride! Kato shows up, there’s another mysterious vigilante murder, a clever explosion, and a brutal attack on the heroes that leaves everything teetering on chaos!
Writing is a Philosophy in The Green Hornet/Miss Fury
So far the story is phenomenal. We’re on this wild ride involving noir detectives, masked vigilantes, and great philosophical discussions for us to chew on. Segura and Barajas are diving deep into what makes Britt Reid tick. He’s got a lot going on in his life and it’s effecting his work in the office and in the streets. Miss Fury is pulling him deeper into the dark side of his role, but he’s fighting to stay true to what Silver Strike taught him about shining a light on the darkness and revealing corruption.
The Green Hornet/Miss Fury is a Classic Work of Art
The art in this is issue stays absolutely amazing as it was in issue #1. It’s so perfectly classic in style. Feeling that connection to it’s roots, while injecting modern styles and tools makes this a pleasure to look at. There are so many panels and splash pages that just make me want to frame them and put them on the wall. Great designs, fluid action, and beautiful scenery all around!
The colors stay tones down, but still rich in the classic comic strip type of way. It’s like looking at the pages of a newspaper, but it doesn’t feel boring. In fact it’s the opposite. Shadowing and light effects are used to perfection in creating depth and movement to the world.
Overall Grade: 9/10
This really is a lot of fun to read if you’re into vigilante philosophy and noir styles of stories and art. The Green Hornet is flawed in so many ways and I feel like we’re seeing him at a low point right now. I also feel like things will come to a head with Miss Fury eventually, which should be fun. Big, campy characters make this fun and the gritty style makes it even better. Beautiful art and a fascinating story make for a great comic book!
