Geiger #5:

Geiger is left powerless and desperate as The Electrician has figured out the one weakness our hero has. Barney, our beloved two-headed dog, is trapped, and our heroic knight lies unconscious. Geiger must rely on his brains this time to live another day.

The Art:

There are some extremely beautiful shots within this issue as Gary and Brad dig into their bag for this one. We get close and personal shots of Tariq’s and The Electrician’s faces, and the level of detail and desperate determination from both characters left me breathless. It’s an impressive feat being able to portray the anger and for the first time fear that Tariq showcases. Another gorgeous shot is of The Electrician standing triumphant on the stairs. The shades of blue in the background and the rain coating the page deliver a haunting scene.

The Writing:

Up until this point, Geoff has showcased Geiger as in control and in charge, which makes this tonal shift into desperation gripping. Seeing him vulnerable and not relying on his powers for once allows Geoff to show off clever ways to portray our hero. I was ready to show up at his office if anything happened to Barney. Rob compliments the haunting scene of our villain with his lettering, filling our minds with what we imagine his laugh to sound like. This issue had me on the edge of my seat, not knowing who would live and who would die, which is a testament to the level of story-telling this comic is delivering.

Overall:

Geiger #5 shows our heroes in an hour of desperation, and the reader does not know what will happen next. This story takes a drastic turn, leaving us gripping each page tightly and our hearts racing. The Ghost Machine team has settled in and hit their stride, and this run is a can’t-miss.
