Rook Exodus #4:
Ursaw the Bear Warden has been hunting down other wardens for their helmets. It’s up to Rook and Dire Wolf to unite as many wardens to their cause as they can. But the same can be said for Ursaw, who has a growing army of his own.
The Art:
What makes the art of Exodus so striking is the canvas of animals, wardens and the strange world that Johns and Fabok have created here.
The emotion and gratitude of a creature like Pumba, a wild boar, once controlled by a warden Rook considered a friend can be felt on the page in issue #4. While Ursaw is on a nefarious mission of his own, the enigmatic Rook, an unwitting hero, is quickly building a story and lore of his own.
And none of this would be possible if not for the art that supports the multi-layered writing that makes this series a must read for any comic or science fiction fans.
They say the eyes are the windows into the soul, well look closely at the eyes of Johns and Fabok’s characters and you truly can see their souls change as the issue evolves.
The Writing:
Earlier, I mentioned Johns’ ability to tell this fresh, nail-biting tail like no other.
Let me elaborate. As a story-teller, Johns is best in class. There’s a twist at the end of issue #4 that I won’t spoil, but it certainly fits the flow of the series thus far.
Each issue builds on the last and leaves the reader wanting more. And trust me after the last page of this issue, you not only want more, you NEED more. It’s a truly, “Wait, how did that happen?” moment.
Overall: 9/10
Rook Exodus #4 is a heart-pumping, foot-tapping, eyes-widening roller coaster. The action doesn’t stop and the emotion oozes off the page like something out of a classic science fiction thriller. If you haven’t placed Rook Exodus on your pull list yet, you’re doing yourself a true disservice.
