Cold Cash #1, is a comic that follows the protagonist, Martha Chainey. Martha lives in South Central, Los Angeles and is described as determined to meet up with an old friend, Rena Solomon.
Martha is tasked to figure out why a sum of money is missing, on behalf of her friend’s cliental. Martha seems to like approaching mysteries in an unconventional way, and the board they meet with, disapproves.Â
Both Rena and Martha agree to investigate the missing money, but without not getting paid for the job. The board leaves, but they agree to the terms of payment.
They all grab lunch, and they talk about Rena and Martha’s past of being showgirls. It describes them of partying too hard, but now they aren’t doing that anymore. Celine is introduced as well, as assisting Martha into this journey of finding the hacker.Â
It seems that Martha has many connections, that she uses throughout the story. As the issue goes on, Martha does extensive detective work, finding the clues toward the hacker.
Martha soon gets to the place she needs to be, and calls Celine to make contact. Martha sends numerous pieces of evidence to her. As soon as Celine says she got it, Martha doesn’t answer. Leaving a cliffhanger, till the next issue.
What I like about this issue is that Martha, is a no-nonsense person. She seems like she has a bounty hunter approach to finding this hacker. Martha also knows how to develop relationships, in order to move forward with the investigation.
The artwork is beautiful, with giving detail to Martha, Celine, and Rena’s hair. I also like how that each individual girl has their own personality, and effort towards working together.Â
I am excited to see where issue number two ends up, and figuring out what happened to Martha.
