The Story:
While the Twilight Court keeps the Avengers busy in the Impossible City, Myrddin confronts Kang the Conqueror! Questions are answered and more are posed as the plot thickens!
The Writing:
Jed MacKay is able to keep the excitement going while all the is action is happening in the background. Watching a character like Kang the Conqueror be forced to listen to a villain monologue was a real highlight. MacKay pulls together plot threads while opening up new mysteries that get me very excited for the future of this title. The quick and easy wrap up of where Kang has been and what he is after was appreciated and will keep new readers engaged without being confused.
The Artwork:
This creative team is excellent! The perfect blending of color and line work is on display here. Each moment of agony on Kang’s face, the emotionless face of Myrddin as he taunts his enemy, the slightly blurred action taking place in the background as the Avengers fight off the advance of the Twilight Court. Truly, Carlos Villa and Federico Blee really compliment each other here!
The Verdict: 9/10
The story is coming back around to Kang, a welcome change that shows that the creative team are building to something epic. The art and character work were top notch with the art team being the big stand out here. On top of everything else this this issue has going for it, I am always on board for a Kang temper tantrum full of passing the buck of his own failures to somebody else. This was peak whiny Kang!
