The Rundown:
Cirrus is having trouble adjusting to his not-so-super body anymore while Roger is out for revenge beginning with his brother when he overhears a conversation between Sarah and his brother who still both hold out hope he can overcome his bitterness. Meanwhile, it is discovered that in order to switch bodies again there is a massive amount of life energy required which is where we see our ominous foe Wyrm ready to do what is needed against Maxterra. The soul cradle and the fate of the galaxy now rest in Roger and a not-so-in-shape Cirrus as they have four days to do so.
The Art:
One thing to appreciate about this story is the amount of detail that goes into every page. From tiny shards of glass to hidden easter eggs you can be sure of one thing and that is Tyrell Cannon laying down some of the absolute best artwork in the business right now with this run. The chemistry he and Spicer have to compliment the colors and the drawing phenomenally as this book is visually stunning at every turn.
The Writing:
Normal guy turned hero we have heard that one before right? Well, not exactly as Porter and Stegman do a wonderful job of adding depth to both Roger and Cirrus. In issue 1 we were left to think Roger would be out for revenge but, they do a great job adding layers and depth to his flawed character. He is a bumbling idiot who is trying to right himself and the chemistry he and Cirrus have mesh together like Batman and Alfred..if Alfred were a divorced dentist who thought the world was out to get him. The story is a mix of action and heart that captivates the audience throughout.
Wrap-up:
The Schlub is a homerun from Image Comics and this creative team. It’s a funny take full of action, adventure, and as-of-yet unexplored mythos. Comic fans should be ensuring this makes their monthly pull list.
