Cobra Commander is on the hunt for the rarest form of Energon ever found. However, well he goes to get this Energon for himself, Destro sees an opportunity to seize control of Cobra. This will inevitably lead to a power struggle and war!

Seizing Power

Cobra Commander has found an Energon signature unlike any other they have discovered before. But instead of sending Ripper to procure it, he opts to go himself. Unbeknownst to Cobra Commander, Destro sees this as his opportunity to seize control of Cobra. Using Ripper and the reformed Dreadnok’s Destro will try and take out Cobra Commander once and for all. Unfortunately for Destro’s plan, Cobra Commander will find an unlikely ally in Duke.

The War Begins

The Dreadnok War is finally upon us and it’s sizing up to be a real barn burner. Joshua Williamson does a fantastic job of setting the stage and launching the reader straight into the war. The backstories have led into this war, and Williamson masterfully sewed all of those stories seamlessly together to make the first issue of the war as exciting as possible. The action is only secondary to the rich story this issue pulls in, with the unlikely alliance being the cherry on top.

The art in this issue is incredible and really makes the reader feel like they are there. Tom Reilly crushes the character designs, and the backgrounds are next level. Reilly does an amazing job with the action sequences and really brings the war to life. Jordie Bellaire matches the arts’ energy with the color selections. The art literally jumps off the page and pulls you in.

Final Thoughts

G.I Joe #13 kicks off the Dreadnok War in a big way. The action is hot and heavy right from the jump and really pulls the reader in. If this kickoff is any indication where the war is going, we are going to be eating good. This is my Pick of the Week and should be a must have when you hit the LCS this week!
