Has this Happened Before!?

The group of survivors find themselves in a standoff of sorts with Gage, the only resident of the ghost town. Joe recognizes Gage and that’s what sets Gage at ease with everyone. Gage reveals that this has happened before, and he survived the last one that he knew of. He explains that the spores infect and then turn the host rotten. Unfortunately, they don’t have much time as the horde has followed them. They will now have to try and escape through the old mine shafts and pray that they can get away.

Tunnel Dwellers

We learn a lot about what is happening in this issue. Chris Condon does a great job of creating a fantastic mythology, which even includes the extinction of the dinosaurs. Building the backstory really does help the reader to understand the scope of what is going on. The downside is that the pacing of the story has really sacrificed a lot of the suspense that the series built early on. As the mystery continues to unravel the sense of urgency and threat have subsided which makes the story drag a little.

The artwork featured in this book is characterized by its simplicity, yet it possesses a remarkable visual appeal. Jeffrey Alan Love continues to do an amazing job with the simplistic black & white art style. The lack of facial features gives the art an uneasy feel, which really helps the story out. Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou employs inventive lettering techniques that help establish the mood of the narrative.

Final Thoughts

News from the Fallout #5 shines more light on what is going on in this world gone mad. The mythology created is a real highlight of this issue. However, the pacing of the story has taken a hit over the last two issues, which has really lowered the suspense of the story. With that being said, this is still a very creative series, with some good twists, which is worth checking out when you visit your LCS.

Overall Grade: 8/10
