Running Through the Desert

Our survivors have gotten away from the diner in Joe’s Apache. But just as they think their nightmare may be getting a little better, they run into General McCoy’s horde of minions. The survivors attempt to avoid both being overtaken and becoming infected but encounter a new issue: they are running low on fuel. To survive they will have to make it to somewhere safe, but their only option is Dead Water, which was a bustling silver mining town, but is now a ghost town. Will they be able to survive the horde that is on their trail or does something worse await them in Dead Water?

Find the High Ground

This issue slows the story down a little bit, well ramping up the suspense and desperation for our characters. Chris Condon does a fantastic job of building a feeling of hopelessness, where no matter what choice our characters make, they are still faced with a major challenge. This sense of desperation creates a high level of suspense that establishes the overall atmosphere of the story. The only detraction is that at times the story can be hard to follow, and the lack of individualism really makes it hard to care for the characters that we are supposed to be rooting for.

The art in this book is simplistic, but stunning at the same time. Jeffrey Alan Love does an awesome job of bringing the desperation and suspense of the story to every panel. Much like the writing of the story, this keeps the reader uneasy and on the edge of their seats. Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou uses some creative lettering to really set the tone of the story as well.

Final Thoughts

News from the Fallout #4 continues to push the suspense to the max, well delivering some effective art. The story does sputter a bit in this issue, but what it lacks in substance it makes up for in suspense. This is definitely a table setter issue that will more than likely pay off in the next issue. If you are a fan of horror comics this series should definitely be on your Pull List.

Overall Grade: 8/10
