Before the Bomb

The issue opens before the bomb giving us a peak into the personal life of one of the diner patrons Charlie. It shows the relationship between Charlie and Nance who are both unlucky in romantic situations. But at the end of the day, they are alone together. Fast forward to the diner, Charlie has his gun aimed at Irene who is outside the door trying to get in after she is turned. Her lover Rob is pleading and then fighting with Charlie about shooting what was Irene. Meanwhile, a gas station employee shows up to work where he discovers the nightmare that is unfolding. Unfortunately for him General McCoy is at the gas station and reveals that this nightmare is designed.

The Nightmare Continues

This issue is a rollercoaster of emotions and really gets the reader thinking about what they would do if in this situation. Chris Condon does a fantastic job writing about the human element of this story and really giving the reader insight into who these characters truly are. This draws you in and makes you care, which really helps in building up the suspense and dread you feel. The psychological horror in this book really immerses the reader in this world.

The art in this book is simplistic, yet very effective. Jeffrey Alan Love really does a great job of adding to the story with his choice of using black and white with limited details in the characters. Much like the writing of the story, this keeps the reader uneasy and hides the true intentions of some of the characters. Couple this with the creative use of lettering by Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou, and you have the makings of an epic.

Final Thoughts

News from the Fallout #3 adds some more depth to the story, well at the same time keeping some more secrets to be revealed later. What this issue lacks in action, it more than makes up for in emotion and suspense. This issue should be on your list to pick up this week, if it’s not already on your Pull List.

Overall Grade: 9/10
