Saved by a Guardian Angel
Speed Racer looks to the memory of his brother Rex for guidance in these hard times. He then decides he needs payback on the C.A.T Team for putting Pops in the hospital. As he goes to the club where they hang out, he’s being tailed by Ace Deucey who is working on behalf of Dante Ferno. At the club Speed confronts the C.A.T goons, before getting distracted by his little brother Spritle, which gives the goons an opportunity to take him out. But Speed is saved by a mysterious guardian angel, Racer X. However, Racer X has a challenge for Speed that may change his life.
Racing for Pink Slips
This issue really brings some different emotions to the arc. David Pepose does a fantastic job of showing the litany of emotions that are driving Speed in this story. Well at the same time advancing and moving the story forward with Racer X. The bumbling “master” criminal Ace Deucey brings a bit of comic relief to the pretty serious tone of the story as well. Overall, Pepose shows why he is one of the best at bringing human emotion to a story.
When it comes to the art in this issue, the art team hit a homerun. Davide Tinto brings the world of Speed Racer to life and really immerses the reader in said world. The character designs are fantastic; well, the racing sequences are next level. The colors Rex Lokus uses really make the art pop and standout. Add to that the wonderful lettering by Buddy Beaudoin and you have all the makings of a smash hit.

Final Thoughts
Speed Racer #3 really moves the story forward, well at the same time making the reader really feel what Speed is going through. The twists and turns in his emotions are sharper than those on the racecourse. But don’t sleep on the action and suspense because this book has that too. Speed Racer has become one of my favorite books to pick up each month. You should race to the LCS, grab a copy of this issue, and add it to your Pull List if it isn’t on it already.
Overall Grade: 10/10
