“Lifelong friends Sophie and Violet were ripped apart when Violet accidentally drowned at a sorority hazing. After a visit to Hyde Street’s psychic Sisterhood, Violet is now spiritually bonded with Sophie, only able to communicate through reflections. Violet convinces Sophie to join the sorority to seek justice for her death. The plan goes awry when one sorority sister mysteriously and suspiciously dies in front of Sophie.”- Ghost Machine/Image Comics

*SPOILERS AHEAD*
The Story:
Maytal is taking us on one wild rollercoaster with this tragic story in a way I was not expecting. There are moments in this book I found myself feeling sympathetic towards the Sisters whom we started out feeling hatred towards.
Violet is on a path of revenge and I cannot help but to wonder just how much of it is also against her will now that she is trapped in this in-between world.
Regardless, Maytal does an incredible job playing on the mystery aspect, and then when all is revealed, the tragedy of it all is hammered home with Sophie, who just cannot catch a break.
It is a great way to build up suspense through a horror book and to keep us guessing at every single turn.
The Art and Lettering:
I want to start with the cover that is, in every way, shape, and form, mind-blowing. There is so much story being told on this cover alone, setting us up for what is to come inside the book. Alex and Leila do such a great job with the detailing in this issue.
There are sequences where Violet is almost hidden in reflections, such as when the tire is flying off the cliff; they managed to detail her face inside the rim, which are those small moments that stand out to me when it comes to the artwork.
The coloring pops out in the panels, and the contrast of blood and the Sisters’ hooded clothing against a snowy setting captures your attention in every panel. This is a very detailed book that gets stronger with each issue.
Final Thoughts:
Sisterhood: A Hyde Street Story #3 is full of twists and turns, with each panel keeping us guessing. The lines between who is right and wrong get perfectly blurred in this issue, leading us to a tragic cliffhanging ending. The world of Hyde Street takes no prisoners, and this is a perfect example!
Overall Grade: 10/10
