The Man in the Crater

Tariq wakes up after he has been taken captive by a group. He is far from his friends and doesn’t know where he is. Worse than that, his captures keep asking him about a pirate named Goldbeard who they think Tariq is involved with. When he can’t give them the answers they want, they place him in prison. Meanwhile, Molatov, Nate, and Junkyard Joe are searching for what happened to Geiger after the explosion.

The Legend of Goldbeard

This issue takes a step back and starts to build up where we are going next in the series. Geoff Johns does a great job of setting the table for what should be the next arc in this saga. The pacing is a little slow and not much really happens outside of the building blocks of the next chapter. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great to take a step back to set things up, but this issue was a little slow for my overall liking.

The art in this issue to no surprise is simply fantastic. Geiger continues to be one of the very best books at the LCS as far as art is concerned. The art team on this issue really brings the world to life and allows the reader to truly visualize what Johns is writing. If you are looking for amazing art, you should definitely be reading this series.

Final Thoughts

Geiger #17 really kicks off the next arc in the saga of Tariq Geiger. The building blocks show some promise of where we will go next. But unfortunately, this issue is a little slow and bogs down with all the background setup. Overall, this series is one of the best in the shops, but if you skipped this issue, I don’t think you would be missing much except for the awesome art.

Overall Grade: 6/10
