The Story

In One World Under Doom #4, we got a first hand look at the fierce fight between Doctor Doom and Lord of Chaos and and Faltine Ruler of the Dark Dimension, Dormammu. Dormammu, determined to beat Doom by any means necessary, put all of Earth’s mightiest heroes into a pocket dimension to ensure that he would fight Doom and Doom alone. What Dormammu didn’t take into consideration is that Doctor Doom is always a few steps ahead of his opponent.

In One World Under Doom #5, Doctor Doom has the heroes of Earth fighting for him, that includes the Avengers, the X-Men, and even the Fantastic Four. While Doom is in agony due to his body being broken and depleted, the heroes fight Dormammu for the sake of their planet. This gives Doom just enough time to get himself back together. With magic holding his bones together, Doom uses all of his might to send Dormammu back to his own dimension, holding him there for all eternity with forever magic. Dormammu has lost, and Earth is safe.

With Earth now being safe from Dormammu, the heroes of Earth spend their time cleaning up the mess from the fight. Iron Man, Squirrel Girl, Sue Storm and the others save every person, confirming that there were no casualties. While that is something to celebrate, Iron Man still isn’t pleased about the situation with Doom. This leads to Thor asking a question no one could except, could Doom really be the best choice for Earth? The heroes have spent so much time hating Doctor Doom, have they ever considered maybe he actually is the right person for the job as World Emperor?

The Writing

One World Under Doom #5 was a great follow up to the exhilarating fight between Dormammu and Doom in the fourth issue. While there’s been so much action, so many plans, and quite a few failures from the heroes of Earth, it was interesting to see them question their own motives. Thor, who turned out to be the voice of reason, brought up great points in the parallels between Doom and Odin. Thor voiced what I’m sure many have thought and that’s asking if Doom is actually doing well as the World Emperor. Another fantastic issue of One World Under Doom by Ryan North!

The Art

The artwork of One World Under Doom has been nothing short of stunning throughout each issue, and it seems to grow in quality with each release. While David Curiel is an absolute genius on colors, R.B. Silva draws each character in a way that makes each stand out in their own right.

Some of the most hard-hitting art in the issue has to do with Odin told from Thor’s perspective. There’s so much power behind these flashback panels, and the artists really made you feel every bit of it.

Final Thoughts

One World Under Doom #5 continues the trend of quality that Ryan North has put into this comic run. Every issue comes with a fantastic story, great continuation, and a huge dose of excitement. I just can’t believe it’ll be two months before I get to read the sixth issue!

Overall Grade – 8.8/10
