The Story
Doctor Doom has made quite a few enemies in his reign as World Emperor, namely the heroes of Earth. However, although these heroes didn’t take kindly to Doom, they were still there to protect the world at any cost. But what happens when they’re not around and a real threat comes for Doom? That real threat, being Dormammu, Lord of Chaos and and Faltine Ruler of the Dark Dimension, has banished all of Earth’s heroes into a pocket dimension to clear the way straight to Doom.
Wielding the powers of the Sorcerer Supreme, Doom was able to protect himself from Dormammu’s magic, making him the only protection left of Earth. Dormammu, while surprised that Doom escaped his attack, was still unimpressed by Doom. Seen as an easy target by Dormammu, Doom seems to in a vulnerable position. Or maybe that’s how Doom wants to appear. If One World Under Doom has taught us anything, it’s that the World Emperor is always a few steps ahead of his opponent.
The Writing
The One World Under Doom event has been nothing short of exhilarating, and Ryan North at the helm continues that energy. The fourth installment of One World Under Doom shows that it’s not just Earth’s Mightiest Heroes that Doom has to face, but threats that are from outside this world. Even when it’s a threat from a powerful entity, Doctor Doom still proves that he’s ahead of the game and he’s thought through every detail of his game plan.
One World Under Doom #4 has to be one of the best installments to come out in the comic run. North sets the tone immediately with showing the disappearance of Earth’s heroes accompanied by the ominous inner dialogue of Doom himself. There’s no chance for this comic to have a dull moment, as it’s nonstop action from beginning to end against these two powerhouses. Once again, Ryan North has made me excited and impatient waiting for the next issue of One World Under Doom.
The Art
The artwork of One World Under Doom #4, courtesy of R.B. Silva, David Curiel, and Travis Lanham, could almost be described as more exciting than a battle between Dormammu and Doom. While the artwork of this run has been nothing short of stunning, One World Under Doom #4 can only be described as otherworldly.
R.B. Silva provides so much abstract detail to each panel, making you not want to take your eyes off of each page. David Curiel, who is the colorist, matches Silva’s abstract detail and takes it to a whole other level with his use of vibrant colors, making this battle look and feel larger than life. Travis Lanham, who handles the lettering, made each word feel powerful, especially when it came from Dormammu. All this tied together from these extraordinarily talented artists creates a beautiful work of art, from beginning to end.
Overall Grade – 10/10
