The Story

World domination continues to thrive under the magical hands of the Sorcerer Supreme, Doctor Doom. The Avengers, who can see through Doom’s act, have created a new plan in hopes to finally bring him down once and for all. But can it be that easy? It seems Doctor Doom is always a few steps ahead of them, especially after their last two plans were foiled by the Sorcerer Supreme.

Their new plan involves the Avengers joining forces with some of the most diabolical heroes such as Arcade, Doctor Octopus, The Goblin Queen, Mysterio, M.O.D.O.K., and Baron Mordo. Of course, tensions are running high as collaborating with those who are usually your enemies can be difficult, but how does the saying go? The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

Half of the new team of Avengers and supervillains rush to the Latverian border to put their plan into action, but it seems Doom has a plan of his own. Once they arrive, Doom is already waiting for them, proving once more that he is always a few steps ahead.

The other half of the team, led by The Scarlet Witch, are in position to take control over the mind of every political leader in the world. With the help of Mordo and The Goblin Queen, Wanda is able to see the truth of how Doom was able to obtain world domination.

The Writing

Ryan North continues to impress with One World Under Doom #3, by giving so much excitement and action packed into one comic. With so many characters fighting against Doctor Doom, North does a fantastic job giving each character their own time to shine. I also really appreciate how North shows the characters working together, despite them being lifelong enemies. Showing the Avengers having to work alongside the villains, despite their contrasting personalities, brings so many different levels of depth to the comic. You can cut the tension with a knife between the supervillains and the Avengers, and North expertly makes you feel every bit of that.

I think what sticks out to me the most is that North really achieves proving just how powerful and cunning Doctor Doom truly is. Even while he’s World Emperor, he still is always ahead of the game. This is the third time the Avengers have tried to go against him, and he still continues to outsmart them at every turn.

The Art

R.B. Silva is a master of his craft, along with David Curiel and Travis Lanham, when creating the artwork to reflect such a thrilling comic. In One World Under Doom #3, the artists really go out of their way to make every character stand out. The villains look fantastic fighting alongside Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, leading to us getting some really phenomenal panels of their battle. There are a few full page works of art in One World Under Doom #3 that were simply stunning, and really nailed the excitement of the comic.

Towards the end is where I think David Curiel really showcased his talents with the colors, as you will see the most gorgeous multichromatic artwork used when showing Doom’s next big opponent. With the look of the best battle for Doom, it makes me very excited to see what Curiel does with these two characters, who have been dripping with a jaw-dropping array of colors every time they make an appearance.

Someone else I have to mention is Ben Harvey, who has provided the cover art for One World Under Doom, and has nailed it every time. Harvey perfectly illustrates the tone of the story within with his thrilling cover art, that gives the reader a look into just how exhilarating the comic will be.

Overall Grade – 10/10
