“50TH ANNIVERSARY ISSUE! Fifty years ago, Ororo Munroe made her debut in GIANT SIZE X-MEN (1975) #1 — thundering her way into our hearts! On this day, in her very own solo series, she will host a mix of debuts, reinventions and guest appearances of FIVE legendary thunder gods: THOR, CHAAC, SANGO, MAMARAGAN and SUSANOO! But first, a mission to Brazil goes horribly wrong. How much more can our hero endure?”(Credit: Marvel)
The Story
Ororo Munroe constantly wears many hats; mutant, Avenger, host to a cosmic entity, but above all else, a storm goddess. With Ororo, AKA Storm, claiming so many different roles, that’s bound to attract unwanted attention. But this time, she’s called to service by none other than her fellow Avenger, Iron Man. Iron Man is in need of Storm’s help in Brazil. It’s a top secret mission, so secret that even Storm isn’t able to know all of the details.
What she does know is that Iron Man is working with a team of scientists to recreate the super-soldier serum. One problem: the serum got lost in transit. The loss of the serum was caused by some type of weather anomaly, which could mean a storm god similar to Storm herself. Also lost in transit, a man who was working for the secret mission. His body is needed to be found for his loved ones to properly grieve.
Storm has quite the checklist to attend to. 1. find the super-soldier serum before it gets into the wrong hands, 2. identify and handle the weather anomaly, and 3. track down the remains of the man who was on mission.
All of this seems like no problem for a woman who’s a host to the cosmic entity who’s the embodiment of the universe, but what happens when Storm isn’t the only storm god in the mix?

The Writing
I honestly can’t get over how well Murewa Ayodele can write Storm, giving her the spotlight she deserves. He consistently shows why she’s worthy to wear so many hats. With each installment of Storm, we see more and more of how powerful she is and how important she is to the Marvel Universe. Storm #7 does exactly that when the Avenger’s last hope in handled the top secret mission rests on Storm’s shoulders, with the assistance of Maggott.
With this being the 50th anniversary issue, I’d say Ayodele did this momentus issue its justice, which is unsurprising.
The Art
If there’s one thing Luciano Vecchio is going to do, it’s going to create a comic that has your eyes glued to each and every page. Storm #7 really shows just how talented Vecchio is with his drawings, giving so much detail, that you feel you’re right in the action. Vecchio sets the tone immediately with a stupendous and otherworldly look at a couple of cameos that really made your eyes not want to leave the page. Vecchio’s art matched with Alex Guimarães and Rachelle Rosenberg’s colors, and Travis Lanham’s letters really brought Storm’s story to a whole new level.
Overall Grade – 9.6/10
