The Story

After six installments of The Power Fantasy, we are FINALLY finding out what happened at the Second Summer of Love! It all started with Valentina being alerted to someone putting out way too much power, and politely asking them to calm it down a bit. This being asks Valentina for help, that she thinks there should be a Heaven on Earth for everyone. Valentina being the angel she is, says she thinks that’s a swell idea.

Meanwhile, in the present day, Valentina is on her way to visit the recluse Eliza to talk about Magus. Something I really enjoyed about The Power Fantasy #7 was learning more about Eliza, who was hinted at in the 6th installment. She’s a dark character who’s wrapped herself around religion, who think her rituals are the only thing that gives this world meaning. She tells Valentina to confess her sins, and that’s when she gets into the details about the Second Summer of Love.

The being I mentioned who wanted to bring Heaven to Earth? She certainly did just that, and Valentina helped her. This “Heaven” was one big constant festival of pure ecstacy and rainbows and everyone loved it. With everything so happy and positive, it has to be too good to be true, right?

The Writing

Like I said, I love that we learned about who Eliza is. She seems like a character who could have a huge impact on the story and I look forward to learning more about her. The Second Summer of Love was an event I was so curious about, and I’m so glad we got to learn about it. As bright and exciting as it was, you could feel there was some darkness below the surface. Kieron Gillen creates yet another compelling and exciting installment of The Power Fantasy, and has me anxiously waiting for the next issue!

The Art

The artwork by Caspar Wijngaard and Clayton Cowles was stunning throughout the comic! You have the trippy rainbow panels that involved the Second Summer of Love, or you had the dark and ominous scenes with Eliza, all of which were powerful. The artists of The Power Fantasy excel at bringing the multiple tones to life through their art, and the seventh installment is no exception. Hats off to the artists!

Overall Grade – 9.4/10
