Eddie Brock Carnage #2

Yep, you read that right, Eddie and Carnage are one, working together to track down and take down serial killers, but what happens when the symbiote helping you out is more sadistic than most of the killers you’re hunting?

Can Eddie reign in Carnage and keep him on the straight and narrow, or will this insane alien be the one to bring Eddie back to his roots of the 1980’s, when he was a true villain through and through?

Creative Team:

Writer: Charles Soule

Artist: Jesus Saiz

Color Artist: Matt Hollingsworth

Letters: VC’s Joe Sabino

The Art:

It’s all about the reds! Saiz has created a palate that is lethal and sadistic to its core.

This fits the theme of this series so well that I feel like we are watching a comic version of the movie “Seven,” so much mystery and evil brewing in one, little 20-something page comic – it’s glorious.

The faces are also straight out of “Law and Order,” with everyone from crime scene investigators to Eddie himself not quite sure how this one is going to turn out.

The art pairs beautifully with Soule’s classically theatrical prose. When you’re working with one of the best writers in the game, you need a top-notch artist to make sure the pages sing!

The Writing:

As I just said, Soule is about as good as it gets for my money. Whether he’s writing Star Wars, Daredevil or even consulting on a TV show, the man’s work has a certain weight to it. A provenance if you will and the reader is better for it.

Within the first 10 pages, you get the gist on what’s going on, though there are many moving parts and even more federal agencies in play trying to understand what all this madness is about from issue #1.

Pay close attention to the scene between the detective and Eddie in the police station and tell me this isn’t movie-level quality stuff. Soule is a pop culture renaissance man and you can bet your butt he’s taken cues from the classics – this scene feels similar to “Unusual Suspects,” but with a bloody twist.

It’s fun, it’s crazy and it’s Veno… I mean Carnage!

Overall Grade: 9.5/10

The issue ends in a BIG way! I genuinely didn’t see this cliffhanger coming, but man is it good. Till next time all you little serial killers out there!
