*Spoilers Ahead*

The Story:

Chris may just make me a full blown Wolverine fan yet. He continues to create this story as though we are witnessing a suspenseful horror film play out before our eyes. As The Winter Soldier hunts in the snowy Forrest I couldn’t help but get Predator vibes. The way he kicks this issue off by leaving us a breadcrumb for what’s to come before putting Wolverine against those whose side he is on keeps me coming back for more.

Seeing these characters find joy and sport in watching Wolverine hunt is putting a fun and evil twist on some of them as I’m used to seeing Colossus in a more heroic light. Chris has a vision with this run and so far it’s hitting every note!

The Art:

The scenes in this book by both Alessandro and Bryan continue to be so metal. They opt for a more show the outcome rather than brutality in this issue which still works. There’s a scene where Wolverine is carrying heads of the soldiers he is put up against on his claws and the way they’re drawn expressionless and colored so bloody and grim stood out immensely.

The team is doing so much expression through Logan’s eyes while keeping his face masked which is a testament to how well they’re doing. Seeing the black and red amongst the snow is a great choice making the colors and grim visuals bleed from the pages.

Final Thoughts:

Ultimate Wolverine #2 continues to be a gruesome adventure that is just making me a Wolverine fanboy yet. Two issues in and this is already a top comic book run on the year!
OVERALL GRADE: 9.5/10
