Superman has always represented Hope. It has been attached to him since his early beginnings. The idea of being its’ embodiment has won fans and influenced characters over for decades. One has swayed back to criminal ways after the Man Of Steel intervened. What causes a villain to relapse from the right side of the law?
ACTION COMICS #1082 by John Ridley, Inaki Miranda, Ceci de la Cruz and Dave Sharpe looks to provide an answer with a brand new story arc.

Ridley throws a unique conflict into the traditional superhero theme. Major Disaster was a reformed villain. When a bank heist goes wrong, it unhinges Superman. Readers watch as the Man of Steel arrives to find a quick surrendering Disaster. The complexity of this move weighs on Clark Kent. It winds up challenging him on a new level.
As the confrontation reoccurs, Kent is stumped as to what has happened. The writing leads to a talk with Lois Lane. Seeing the couple break down what happened is a solid moment. It lends itself to question Superman’s impact. Ridley pens this as a question of faith in oneself. This is a whole new side to Superman. The result is a scramble for answers. It’s disrupted in the close. Seeing where things are left off, readers know there is more to this than a change of heart.

Miranda and De La Cruz build the calm before the storm. once events launch, Superman enters via a two page splash. The art closes in on Superman’s reaction to a lost light. It sends him into a controlled rage. This stands out on the panels. Events here conclude via a full page transition. One point poised to fight, split to a surrender.
The fallout lead to a personal talk between Lois and Clark. The guilt Clark carries is felt in each panel. Lois counters with grounded support. The couple has been through much over the years. Readers sense something is off but nothing out of the ordinary. Once events head towards the end, a surprise is thrown in. The last page provides a few questions before wrapping up shop on this new adventure.

Superman has a question of influence in this new story arc. Ridley’s writing challenges the Man of Steel’s impact on others. Miranda, De La Cruz and Sharpe blend superhero themes in with ever mounting drama for a solid chapter. Where this heads now is anyone’s guess.
