Catch up with Mystique #1 here!
Whatever’s necessary
If there’s one thing about Mystique, it’s that she will do whatever’s necessary to get what she wants. As she proved in Mystique #1, she’s on a mission and doesn’t plan on stopping until she achieved her goals. In Mystique #2, she’s sought the help of a past friend and former member of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, Dominikos Petrakis, aka Avalanche.
VOTE IN THIS YEARS CHEERSIES!
There’s absolutely no friendliness between the former team members, which is very understandable as Mystique doesn’t keep friends very well, in a nice way to put it. It seems there’s no love lost on Mystique’s side either when it comes to Avalanche, which isn’t surprising. Mystique is on a mission, and nothing will stand in her way.
Meanwhile, Nick Fury is enjoying his time out in the field and away from a desk. He’s now found the support from Maria Hill on his quest to bring down Mystique, but it seems that he’s getting support from another ally. A very unexpected ally at that.
The Writing
Declan Shalvey does a phenomenal job with Mystique #2 with the story. I thought Mystique #1 was a very strong start, but the second installment proves that this train isn’t slowing down. The espionage vibes of Mystique #2 are picture perfect for the storyline and the characters involved. This is definitely a comic book run with the X-Men fans in mind. I look forward to seeing what’s next with Mystique.
The Art
I really have been enjoying the artwork of Mystique and this second installment is no exception. Whenever you get a Mystique storyline, you’re bound to have some really fun cameos involved, and that’s been something I have been really looking forward to. Matt Hollingsworth does a fantastic job with the colors of Mystique #2, as each page keeps your eyes glued to it. The flashback scene of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants was perfectly done, with a warm tone change to juxtapose the icy scene Mystique was currently in. The lettering done by Clayton Cowles was a fantastic exclamation point that drove this comic book home.
