Getting to know the Sentinels
Sentinels #2 sets the tone with a look back at Onslaught’s attack on Central Park, which showed us a great background of one the Sentinels past. I really liked how this started because I was hoping to get into the backgrounds of each Sentinel member and it seems that’s the route we’re going. It also gave us a really good look at how the mood stabilizers are used in their day-to-day as a Sentinel.
VOTE IN THIS YEARS’ CHEERSIES!
Moving on from that, the Sentinels have their new orders and it involves a very well known character, Sebastian Shaw. They must break into a max security prison that Shaw just so happens to run, break him out, making him their own prisoner. It’s going to take very good planning to catch Shaw off guard and be able to get an inhibitor collar on him.
The Writing
Alex Paknadel does a great job with keeping you dialed into the story with the impressive amount of action and even a fair few emotional scenes. I’m really liking the characters and learning more about them and how they ended up on the Sentinels team. I’m also excited which characters will be used in their next mission, as Shaw made for another exciting aspect of the story. The pacing of Sentinels #2 was handled really well and flowed really nicely.
The Art
The art of Sentinels #2 had just the right amount of grittiness in each panel to give this a more grounded feel. Justin Mason does a fantastic job with giving an impressive amount of details to each panel, making every page an exciting sight. The colors are very well handled by Federico Blee, with them being muted or vibrant in exactly the right places. Travis Lanham’s lettering placement perfectly control the pacing of the narrative. I always know when I needed to pause or speed up my reading. Together, the creative team does a stupendous job on Sentinels #2, I think.
Final Thoughts
I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first started reading Sentinels but so far I’m really enjoying what I’ve read. It’s a fun read that feels really grounded to me and it seems like the sky’s the limit with where it can go.
