Catch up with Venom War: Spider-Man #2!
The Dark Future
The Venom War continues with Peter Parker, AKA Spider-Man, right in the middle of the chaos. Previously, Spider-Man had proposed that he remain the host to Venom to get Dylan and Eddie to stop all this fighting over the symbiote. But with the events of Venom War #3, it seems Peter has no choice but to give up Venom in efforts to save Eddie. While coming to this decision, Peter is visited by a symbiote entity named Eventual. Eventual shows Peter his future as the host should he keep playing host to Venom. From killing the Guardians of the Galaxy to hurting the ones closest to him, the future looks dark for Peter if he continues.
Meanwhile, MJ, AKA Jackpot, had been fighting Arachniote, the ancient mega-klyntar feared by everyone including symbiotes. But now she’s unreachable with her with her vitals spiking and disappearing. So not only does Peter have to fight in the Venom War, he has to find MJ and save her from whatever symbiote chaos she’s in.
Venom War: Spider-Man #3 took me by surprise given how chaotic it was from start to finish. I really enjoyed seeing Eventual and watching how Peter’s future alters by him continuing to play host. Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly did a remarkable job at balancing so many different tones throughout the comic. There was action, there was darkness, there was terror, and even the usual Spider-Man quips that we all know and love. It was also a real treat to see the Guardians of the Galaxy, despite the circumstances.
The art in Venom War: Spider-Man #3 was nothing to scoff at. I would say this is some of the best work by artists of the comic. With art by Greg Land, colors by Frank D’Armata, ink by Jay Leisten, and letters by Joe Caramagna, they make the perfect blend of grittiness and abstract to create a larger than life look throughout the comic.
Final Thoughts
I found Venom War: Spider-Man #3 to be a pleasant surprise. The Venom War has been quite steady in its plot, so seeing the future a Peter Parker being a symbiote host and what devastation that brings was a very fun change of pace.
