When we last left the Deadpool family, Deadpool himself was being killed by Death Grip while Ellie and Princess were on their first mission. While Ellie nailed the mission as her first time as Deadpool herself, she didn’t know what horror waited for her when she returned. Now she is enraged and taking her anger out on villains in the classic Deadpool way minus the killing.

Taskmaster and Doug are still with Ellie and Princess running their mercenary business. According to Taskmaster, their goal is to get revenge on the shmuck who killed Ellie’s dad, Deadpool, but to do that, they need to be able to afford the weapons they use. So it’s time for them to take on merc jobs to pay for the weapons and keep the lights on.

I really enjoyed seeing Ellie come from a place of anger and despair, while she still had hope that her dad would return. She’s doing what she can by watching online videos in hopes of finding some way to bring Deadpool back while his body sits in a computer chair at their lair. While it’s tough to see her go through every emotion imaginable, it’s nice to see she isn’t going through it alone.

Cody Ziglar has such a way to make you feel these things while also geeking out at all the action sequences and laughing at the funny codenames Ellie gives to Taskmaster. And this time, he’s joined by Alexis Quasarano, who adds even more power to this fantastic run. With that wild cliffhanger involving a character I didn’t see coming, I really can’t wait to see what’s next for Ellie, Princess, Taskmaster, and of course, Doug.

The art in Deadpool has been so solid this entire run, and this seventh installment is no exception. The fight sequences with Ellie and Princess were easily most of my favorite parts, but I think Princess takes the cake. Andreas Di Vito does a really great job drawing Princess to fit in with every scene while always looking larger than life. With colors by Guru-eFX and letters by Joe Sabino, there’s really no going wrong here.

Overall, I think this was a great continuation showing all of the emotions everyone is feeling after losing Deadpool. I’m loving Ellie taking on the mantel as Deadpool but still having to uphold the “no kill” rules. It’s continuing to be a fun ride.
