Let’s Get Into Blood Hunters #2!
Last we left off, Elsa Bloodstone, Hallow’s Eve, Yelena Belova, and Dagger run into Spider-Man, who’s now a vampire. Dagger tried to cure him of his vampirism, but proved to be unsuccessful. Now that Spider-Man is one of the blood-sucking monsters, Elsa has her sights set on taking him out. With the help of the other Blood Hunters, Spider-Man manages to get away from Elsa and her bullets. Of course, Elsa isn’t pleased about this and mentures off on her own. But Yelena, being ever so thoughtful, has already put a tracker on Elsa and the other Blood Hunters, so they can track her movements.
Elsa makes her way down the alleyway and and makes a new friend that she calls Little Moggy, who is a cute little cat. Little Moggy turns out to be a vampire to Elsa’s surprise. While Elsa is finding out that her feline visitor is a blood sucker, the Blood Coven arrives. The Blood Hunters were unaware they had been watched by the Blood Coven, so this was a shock. Smoke Eater, Cruel, and Unusual restrains Elsa with plans to hurt her. But before they can carry on with their dark plans, a friendly face shows up to save Elsa.
The Art
I genuinely appreciate the artwork in Blood Hunters #2. It perfectly matches the story’s tone. I especially want to commend the depiction of the Blood Coven. Each member has a distinct, dark, and menacing appearance that sets them apart. Something I really like was Unusual, as he was scary but also stunning with his bright colors and abstract details. Also, the vampire cat was a pleasant surprise.
The Writing
So far, I’m really enjoying Blood Hunters. This comic, Blood Hunters #2, was a fun continuance of an exciting team up that I didn’t know I needed. Erica Schultz does a great job in meshing together a team of heroes that you wouldn’t think would work well together and makes them a great team.
Something I love about Blood Hunters, and the whole Blood Hunt event really, is that you genuinely have no idea what’s going to happen next. Whether it be a vampire Spider-Man who can’t be healed, or a vampire cat that turns out to be an ally, it always keeps you guessing. Personally, I’m hoping for more of a spotlight shown on Hallow’s Eve or Yelena in the next one!
