The Superpowered Family
When you hear the word “superpowers”, you tend to think heroes, villains, and all that goes into a superhero comic book. But The Power Fantasy #1 has it to mean a very different thing. In that world, it means any person that has the abilities to destroy the world.
Usually in superhero stories, superheroes are a dime a dozen, but that’s not the case here. In fact, there’s only six of these superpowered beings in the world. It seems that the goal is to never let them come to using their powers against the world.
Some of the superpowered agree that it should never come to that, like Valentina, who’s an angel that has come down to ensure safety. But on the other hand, you have Etienne who says that there’s two options; take over the world or try to find a balance.
The six superpowered beings are named Etienne, Magus, Valentina, Heavy, Eliza, Masumi, and they call themselves the Family. Interestingly enough, they can all communicate telepathically. It seems the Family does what they can to keep each other in order and avoid any outbursts there may be for the sake of safety.
The Hit
An example of this is when the US government attacked Heavy, attempting to kill him. Of course, he survived and wanted vengeance. Fortunately, Etienne stepped in and handled the situation by killing the president and all his colleagues in order to subside Heavy’s need for revenge. Etienne communicated with each member of the Family in order to make sure there was no retaliation from them. In the end, the situation was handled, even if it resulted in death.
The Art
The artstyle of The Power Fantasy #1 was absolutely phenomenal. The gorgeous juxtapositions of the colors and the abstract details of the backgrounds created something special. It really enhanced the plot of the story in all ways.
Not to mention the incredible attention paid to the details when the characters were drawn. My personal favorite part that I think showcased Caspar Wijngaard’s talent was when Valentina showed her heavenly powers to Etienne. The art alone deserves a 10 out of 10.
The Writing
I didn’t know what I was getting into when I first started The Power Fantasy #1, but I felt nothing but excitement. The story is very enthralling and has so much room to work with.
Having a group of six superpowered beings that work together as what they can a family is such a cool idea for a comic. The characters themselves were all very unique and clearly have their own story just waiting to be told. This is now one of my most anticipated comic series.
