The Rage
The end of Deadpool & Wolverine: WWIII is here and I’m so bummed about it. I love these two together and I loved this run. Starting out, Wolverine is mourning Deadpool’s demise whilst fighting off a monster sent by Delta. While Wolverine is fighting for his life, Delta is antagonizing him to bring out his Berserker Rage. As a result, Wolverine is in full Berserker mode when there’s a second voice.
Another voice in his head other than his, that’s pleading with him to stop. As Wolverine continues his fit of rage, the voice continues to beg him until it warns him to stop. Finally, the voice had had enough and put an end to the fight by stabbing Wolverine in the head. Once everything stops, Wolverine sees a person coming out of his own body. It’s none other than Deadpool. Using Deadpool’s blood that went into Wolverine’s body, Deadpool was able to completely regenerate from Wolverine’s body. It seems the Berserker Rage accelerated the regenerating.
While the audience watching all of this go down are throwing out their bids like an auction, Delta declares the experiment is a failure. He commands his teleporter, Greta, to send out an elimination squad to take down Wolverine and Deadpool. So, with half a human growing in his back, Wolverine must take down the elimination squad.
The Art
Deadpool & Wolverine: WWIII #3 was gruesome, dark, and violent. It’s exactly what you’d want in a comic that includes the Berserker Rage. I loved the darkness and the grittiness of the comic. It fit the story so well, and did nothing but enhance the plot. The way Deadpool was drawn growing out of Wolverine was gruesome and perfect. Hats off to the artists of this run, as they did an incredible job.
The Writing
I loved the writing of Deadpool & Wolverine: WWIII. I feel like the plot kept the same chaotic energy throughout the run, and the third installment is no different. From the Berserker Rage to Wolverine mourning Deadpool, it was all phenomenal. I especially loved when Deadpool told Wolverine to stop his “mope-a-logue” and to stop being so hard on himself. It was really interesting to see Deadpool empower Wolverine rather than laughing off the situation. I really loved how the writers were able to give us a vulnerable Wolverine and Deadpool in this run.
Final Thoughts
With the excitement of the movie coming this week, I can’t get enough of these two together. Deadpool and Wolverine have a friendship that knows no bound, or a bromance as Deadpool would call it. Both have high respect for each other, even if it’s not said out loud. This was the perfect run to read leading up to Marvel Studios’ Deadpool & Wolverine. The creative team killed it with this run!
