The Tournament Continues

Picking up where we left off in the second installment, X-Men: Heir of Apocalypse #3 starts with Archangel and Apocalypse up in arms. Archangel wants to put a stop to his competition for an heir and Apocalypse just isn’t having it. Apocalypse thinks he’s doing what’s best for mutantkind and their future. Of course, Archangel isn’t giving up and is starting to seem like the MVP here.

Sinister Plan

Meanwhile, the competition is still in full effect with the remaining competitors realize Mister Sinister is up to know good. While Sinister doesn’t deny that he’s up to no good, he does admit he actually does want to win. Even though the mutants are keeping a close eye on him, that doesn’t stop Sinister from causing mayhem. Sinister throws his control disk that he’s been using to take down the competitors at The Gorgon, causing him to lose all control and attack in a blind rage.

But of course, that doesn’t stop Sinister from continuing to cause chaos. He then throws a bomb causing half of them to fall to their deaths. That includes Mister Sinister, who Emma Frost forced to jump to join them. While this all seems pretty insane, it only gets even more wild when Apocalypse spills the beans on even more twists he has for the competition.

The Art

The art of X-Men: Heir of Apocalypse continues to impress! The detailed drawings in every panel, particularly of each character, are fantastic. Each character is depicted with such meticulous detail that it feels like their own personal saga. The flashback panels provide a cool-toned contrast that complements the warmer tones of the present scenes beautifully. One standout moment for me is the beautifully colored fight scene between Apocalypse and Archangel. Archangel looks absolutely stunning in this comic.

The Writing

Something I really appreciate is how each character is written in a way that feels true to them while fitting the overall tone of the story. The flashback scenes showing them accepting the invitation to join the competition is really creative and a great way to add depth to each competitor. I love the battle with Archangel and Apocalypse while the competitors are fighting their own battles. The story has a lot of excitement that keeps you captivated throughout the comic.
