Minor Threats, the Fastest Way Down by Dark Horse Comics

The Minor Threats universe kicked off last year with a 4 issue run. Followed by The Alternates, and now Minor Threats, the Fastest Way Down. Stay tuned this summer for Barfly, another story in this hilarious action packed continually growing universe.

In this run, Frankie “Playtime” Follis is quickly becoming the “Queenpin” of Redport. While Redport is home to many villains just trying to get by, some are more interested in taking her place, and others just want revenge against Frankie. In issue 2 we got to know Diego, formerly known as Reptilian. He lost the love of his life, and blames Frankie. Redport’s most dangerous toymaker quickly rose to the top, and now she seems to be quickly taking the fastest way down, as her enemies are stacking up and teaming up. Meanwhile, Frankie still has to protect the secret that brought her to the top, or she’ll lose everything she cares about.

Check out the review for Issue 2.

The Story for Issue 3

This issue kicks off with more of Frankie’s tragic childhood through the eyes of her mother: Loretta AKA The Toy Queen. Loretta’s parenting style could be used as a how to guide in creating a villain. Despite Loretta’s award winning parenting, Frankie truly seems to want to do good, even if it often doesn’t end that way. However, the Toy Queen seems to want a last chance at redemption, as the Action threatens her in hopes of finding Frankie.

Meanwhile, Frankie struggles with the secret she’s keeping, her future business plans, her enemies, and her current relationship status. All issues that suddenly seem pointless when a surprise twist at the end pops up.

The Art

Throughout this issue we get deep emotional scenes, that quickly turn to action packed sequences. The art beautifully takes you from an emotional moment creating a level of sympathy for the characters, only to then perfectly get your adrenaline pumping with a detailed and gorgeous super powered fight.

One of my favorite parts of this universe has been the unique superpowers and details that can be found on every single page. This issue once again gave us new super powered characters with detailed art that just makes you want to stare at every inch of every single page.

Minor Threats, the Fastest Way Down #3 Rating: 9.5/10

If you’re looking for a new comic world to explore filled with comedy, crime, generational trauma, and insanely unique super powers, all drawn with gorgeously detailed art…then this is the comic for you! Minor Threats, the Fastest Way Down, is beautifully uncovering layers of trauma. Frankie has struggled with doing what is right her whole life, only to continually find herself feeling like a villain. While she’s at the top of world, she’s enjoying none of it, and now she’s possibly facing the literal worst thing that could ever happen to her.
