The ending of the Krakoan Era is proving to be a rousing surprise at every turn. Every installment in this series outdoes the last in excitement. X-Men: Forever #4 excels at keeping readers eagerly anticipating what comes next with its thrilling unpredictability. As the secrets of our beloved mutants are revealed, the anticipation grows like a phoenix from the ashes.

Into The Fourth

Jumping into X-Men: Forever #4, we’re greeted with a surprising heart to heart involving Mister Sinister and Destiny. If you read the last installment, you’ll know that Destiny has more than one crucial thing on her mind, so it was nice seeing her be so vulnerable. Something I really appreciate this comic book run is that we see so many emotions surrounding Destiny and her small family of Mystique and Nightcrawler. Of course, tensions are usually high when involving Mystique but it hits different when Destiny is involved.

Moving on to an even bigger part of the comic, Hope Summers. Hope has always been a bit of a mystery when it comes to where she came from. She is the adopted daughter of Cable and the biological daughter of Louise Spalding. But In X-Men: Forever #4, we get even more of a backstory of where she came from and we get to see who was involved. Remember, I did say our favorite mutants were having their secrets revealed. It’s as wild as you think it is in the best way possible.

The Art

The artwork is stupendous. Luca Maresca and Federico Blee do such a beautiful job depicting each emotion in their art. The colors combined with incredible scenes shows exactly how high the stakes are in every panel. Any scene with the Phoenix and Jean is an absolute masterpiece.

The Writing

Yet again, Kieron Gillen hits a homerun with his writing. The plot is just as captivating as the characters are, and that’s saying something. If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a million times, Gillen does a spectacular job as showcasing each mutant and giving them their spot to shine even while so much is going on around them.

Final Thoughts

X-Men: Forever #4 does an excellent job at keeping the pace as its predecessors. Each issue has been nonstop action as well as great insights into the struggles of the mutants, and this comic is no exception. I look forward to what comes next in this run!

I give this an 8 out of 10
