Unity for Cybertronians

Thundercracker unleashes an attack on Jazz in an attempt to save Skywarp. Skywarp reveals to move him would mean for him to die, but Thundercracker doesn’t want to believe this. Just when he has the upper hand on Jazz, Optimus Prime bails Jazz out and tries to talk sense to Thundercracker. Prime promises him that the Autobots will restore Skywarp because they are all Cybertronians. Wheeljack gets Teletraan-1 up and running and despite his protest they fix Skywarp as they promised.

Meanwhile, General Flagg reveals his plans to make his own version of Optimus Prime. Back on Cybertron, Elita is very upset about how her fellow Autobots care more about Earth than their own planet. However, back on Earth after they restored Skywarp he turned on the Autobots, even though Thundercracker pleaded with him not to. This leaves Thundercracker in a predicament, should he follow his Decepticon brother, or form a new allegiance with the Autobots?

A New Ally for the Autobots?

Issue 26 does an amazing job of moving the story forward well, catching readers of guard with a possible new ally. Robert Kirkman does a masterful job of building up the emotion and tensions between Thundercracker and the Autobots. He also reminds the reader that the Autobots have a lot more things to worry about, including their own. All the story threads that have been building up are starting to really take shape and make for some exciting times ahead.

The art in this issue is excellent and really puts the reader right in the middle of the drama. Dan Mora shows why he’s one of the top artists in the industry today with his beautifully drawn panels. The characters, background, action, and fine details all stand out in the art. Mora really makes sure the world of Transformers feels familiar well at the same time putting his artistic stamp on it. Add to that the perfect color pallet from Mike Spicer, and you have a near perfect art style.

Final Thoughts

Transformers #26 continues to up the ante and bring the heat to one of the most exciting stories in all of comics today. The action and plotting are great, but the drama and internal conflict of Thundercracker takes center stage in this issue. When you have an exciting book like Transformers and you can bring some great drama as well, you know you are hitting homeruns. If you are not reading Transformers, it’s time to rectify that and grab a copy of this issue at your LCS this week.
