Boston’s been lied to, and now his entire post-life existence has been one gigantic lie?! If he hopes to solve the mystery of the Soul-Eaters, The Deadman must take the elevator to see THE BIG GUY!

The Story:
This issue opts to talk through an existential crisis, and yet it feels relevant to everybody who reads, no matter the situation. We’ve all felt useless and as though we need a change of jobs, and Boston Brand is no different. I love how the team is quietly weaving together other storylines in this issue, as well as bringing out the more supernatural side of DC Comics. There are a few exciting cameos within this issue, and the team is starting to give us just a little bit more as to what is happening with the Soul-Eaters. Overall, this issue slows things down and simplifies the story just a little bit while pushing things forward at the same time.
The Art:
Morazzo and O’Halloran bring a brighter and simpler artistic style to issue #4. Since we visit Heaven in this issue, the team brings about a utopian feeling and vibe. The elevator to heaven brings a vastness of blue and gold to the panels, which is a stark contrast to the darker tones we have played with. The duo still hit home with the horror and the opening panels give us a look at Boston as he changes his look in anger. A subtle detail I notice which endears me to the artwork even more is how often Boston changes his outfits. We see him in a suit, a custodian outfit, his normal attire, and more to fit the different locations he is in. Deadman remains one of the more beautifully done comics in the game.
Final Thoughts:
The Deadman #4 opens up the playbooks with subtle hints at potential crossovers and a bit of therapy for both Boston and the reader. The Deadman may need all the help he can get, as he is now face-to-face with some surprises on every page!
