The Nightmare Continues…

As the werewolves claim more lives and grow in numbers, Captain Coffin and his men are getting desperate to find a plan of survival. The first thought is to get to the ship; however, they learn that Colonel Ludgate ordered a newly promoted Lieutenant to commandeer their ship. This forces them to find a new plan for an escape. But well, they put their plan into motion, Captain Coffin needs answers and the only person that can give them to him is Sister Rosamund. However, what he learns from her changes everything he ever thought he knew of when he was younger.

Love Finds a Way

The Lycan #5 ramps up the action and suspense, well adding a new wrinkle into the story. Mike Carey does an amazing job of revealing a new truth without having it feel like it was shoehorned in. Blending elements of mystery, horror, and thriller with a romantic subplot is a bold approach that delivers impressive results. At every turn our protagonists look like they have finally broken free, before it is snatched away yet again. This constant uneasiness really builds the tension and suspense to a fever pitch going into the final issue.

The art in this issue is fantastic and really immerses you in this messed up world. Diego Yapur does an awesome job of showing the horror and violence through his art. Yapur’s vivid depiction of characters and their circumstances adds significant depth to the narrative. DC Alonso demonstrates careful attention to color coordination, ensuring that each panel is visually distinct and complements the artwork effectively.

Final Thoughts

The Lycan #5 is a nearly perfect penultimate issue and really drives home the importance of reading the final issue. Just when the reader thinks they have finally figured out all the mysteries of this series, Carey hits us with one more right before the end. This series has been fantastic and should have an amazing final issue on the way. Open Comixology, dive into this right away, and get ready for the series finale.
