The Story:
Things come to a head as Iron Man and his team learn of a terrible deal that was made by his young associate. Vishte has gone too far and it’s up to Iron Man to stop this new Iron Monger once again!
The Writing:
While I have come to enjoy Spencer Ackerman’s work on this series, this issue was lacking for me. The overuse of dialogue and muddled story that needed to get wrapped up quickly made it hard for me to really get into this issue. I don’t fault Ackerman for this completely, it is the unfortunate side effect of having such a long run of tie-ins. Nearly half of Ackerman’s run with the character was taken up by tie-ins to an event that I wasn’t reading. I hope he gets a chance to write Iron Man again, I’m curious to see what he does when he isn’t bogged down and can tell his own story.

The Art:
While I had my issues with the story itself, the artwork in this book was great. Vishte in the Iron Monger armor, wrapped in a green cloak while spouting off plans to become the new Doom really popped. The action was great throughout, especially the Repulsword… I really need that to be a prop I can hang on my wall soon! The use of color along with the line work and inking brought this comic to life in a way the script just couldn’t do alone.
Overall Grade: 7/10
This is far from the worst issue of Iron Man I’ve ever read. However, I have to say that the run went out with a bit of a whimper. Solid artwork kept me entertained but I just could not get interested in the story taking place here. I’m hopeful for the future of my favorite character and I look forward to what this creative team does next.
