The Story:
Iron Man’s double cross of Dr. Doom is coming to a head. As Tony heads to help free Melinda May from the Winter Guard, Black Widow and Winter Soldier move towards a collision course with Dr. Doom’s agents. Meanwhile, Iron Man’s young Latverian sorcerer dives deeper into his plan to stop Doom.
The Writing:
The writing in this issue was well done. However, the story being told is beginning to feel a little stale to me. The One World Under Doom tie-in arc is not sitting with me as it continues. I don’t think this is Spencer Ackerman’s fault. As a matter of fact, I have been enjoying the series so far but this arc feels like it is going on too long. Again, I don’t put the blame on the writer, this arc has been well told I’m just ready for the next story to start. I will say that what did work for me was Vishte’s back story in Latveria. I would happily spend more time learning about this character.

The Art:
With three artists on this issue everything felt a bit disjointed. While each artist did a fine job, the switch between them took me out of the story. I will say that the action set pieces worked well, with an emphasis on Crimson Dynamo’s armor. As a long time Iron Man fan, I just love that bulky old suit! Another positive was the unsettling changes happening with Vishte’s appearance. He looked gnarly and creepy and his effect on the Latverian soldiers was wonderfully disturbing.
Overall Grade: 7/10
While this issue was a step back it was not a total miss. I look forward to this storyline coming to an interesting conclusion and I hope this creative team stays on the book for a while. While I can’t say that I loved this issue, I am not giving up hope for what is to come.
